Voter Registration Assistance:  Mike Rodriguez, Onion Creek Post 326 member and Chairman of the Scholarship Committee, is now certified by Travis County as a Deputy Voter Registrar (DVR). In the event that any of our Post members, spouses or neighbors here in Onion Creek need to register to vote prior to the Fall general election, you can contact Mike Rodriguez for assistance.  He has all the necessary materials.  Even if previously registered, if someone has changed addresses since they last voted they would need to re-register.  FMI please contact Mike Rodriguez at 512-292-1300 or lmiker@msn.com. VA Simplifies Access to Heath Care and Benefits for Veterans with PTSD.  WASHINGTON (July 12, 2010):  Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki announced a critical step forward in providing an easier process for Veterans seeking health care and disability compensation for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), with the publication of a final regulation in the Federal Register.

"The nation has a solemn obligation to the men and women who have honorably served this country and suffer from the often devastating emotional wounds of war," said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki.  "The final regulation goes a long way to ensure that Veterans receive the benefits and services they need."  See

Lowe's Military Discount Now Year-Round: 
Lowe's recently announced it has expanded its 10 percent military discount to all day, everyday, for active duty, National Guard and reserve, retiree and disabled service members, and their families.  Those who want to receive the discount must present a valid military ID card.  All other veterans will receive the 10 percent discount on holiday weekends of Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Veterans Day.  The discount is available on in-stock and special-order purchases of up to $5,000.  It cannot be used on sales at Lowes.com, on previous sales, or on sales of services or gift cards.
 
Heath Care for Homeless Veterans (HCHV) Walk-In Clinic:
   Commander Ken Baucom recently visited and toured the HCHV Walk-in Clinic in Austin which provides important Veteran services to homeless Veterans.  Commander Baucom has invited a representative of the program to make a brief 5-10 presentation at the next Executive Committee Meeting on Wednesday, September 2, 2009.  See HCHV Flyer

VA Assistance with Health Costs for those in Need:  On January 12, 2009 we received an important VA news release from Department of Texas Adjutant Bill West.  The news release states that for veterans struggling financially due to job loss or decreased income, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) offers an assortment of programs that can relieve the costs of health care or provide care at no cost.  See the VA News Release.
